If you love the concept of a restaurant with a view, then you will be delighted with the experience at Skybar Restaurant in Traders Hotel Puteri Harbour.  By day it offers diners a panoramic view of smart yachts moored in the marina with an adjacent promenade shaded by towering palms and an enchanting vista bathed in glittering lights against a dark velvet backdrop by night.  An intimate dinner, a special celebration or simply to pamper yourselves, diners at the outdoor section of the Skybar Restaurant can be assured that their meal will be served with spectacular views of Puteri Harbour and beyond.  

Last December when Ipoh-born Lee Choon Boon, better known as Chef Boon, was transferred to Johor Baru from the Group’s sister hotel in Singapore, he fitted in well with the culinary team here.  Working closely with Executive Chef Allan Wong, he took advantage of the opportunities given to explore and create interesting recipes for the menu at Skybar Restaurant.  Applying his skills and experience, Chef Boon has been delighting diners at Skybar Restaurant with food that not only looks good but tastes good too.

It’s best to arrive before sundown so that you can take in the spectacular view and watch the colours change from dusk to darkness. Take your time to review the menu and notice symbols like a chef’s hat that indicates signature items, a leaf means that the item is vegetarian while a nut simply warns that the item contains traces of nuts. The menu may list a range of interesting items but diners are encouraged to ask for a personalised menu and allow the Chef to delight you with his culinary creations. 

Start with Caesar Salad and savour the crispy leaves of romaine lettuce sprinkled with beef bacon bits, crunchy croutons and Parmesan cheese with the succulent flavour of smoked white anchovies.  The slightly salty taste of smoked white anchovies is a delightful contrast of flavour in the salad.  Continue with soup – a rich She Lobster Bisque – created with female lobster and crab meat topped with pistachio cream.

You can pick from main course choices of meat, fish, prawn or chicken but meat-lovers will be delighted with the medium-well grilled Black Angus Rib Eye steak served in natural jus and a generous portion of greens. 

Fans of seafood will enjoy Cioppino style cod fish topped with grilled prawns and black mussels on a bed of saffron risotto, drizzled with delicious light tomato broth.  Gently eat your way down to the risotto and enjoy the contrast of flavours as the fish melts in your mouth while you chew into the mussels and grilled prawns.

If chicken is your choice, enjoy the current promotion of half a slow-roasted chicken served with green peas and roasted potatoes that comes with the Dessert of the Day at RM45++ only.  The portion is large enough to share so two or more of you can savour the tender chicken together!

Linger over coffee or tea and end your meal sweetly with smooth Crème Brulee created in chocolate and pandan flavour or indulge in Manjari bittersweet chocolate mousse topped with mint sorbet.  By now, you will agree that the meal is more satisfying and memorable because it was served with spectacular views.
