Kitty Crazy

Bunting at Hello Kitty's 40th Anniversary
celebration at Little Red Cube, Nusajaya
Hello Kitty certainly does not look bad for a 40-year old.  In fact, she is looking very good as the centre of attraction for her 40th anniversary celebrations at Sanrio Hello Kitty Town in the Little Red Cube, Nusajaya, Johor Baru.

From Oct 31 to Nov 2, a host of celebration fun activities are organised for visitors to enjoy the Hello Kitty experience in the Sanrio Hello Kitty Town themepark as well as throughout the Little Red Cube.  Stalls are set up in front of the shops, creating a long market place for visitors to browse around for snacks, knick-knacks and fashion accessories – some of which are designed in the Hello Kitty theme.

Since I met Hello Kitty at the opening of Sanrio Hello Kitty Town in Nusajaya, I had the opportunity to meet her again at Universal Studios Osaka while I was in Japan for a travel assignment.  I remember, it was like meeting an old friend again as we hugged each other fondly.  Hello Kitty was created 40 years ago to inspire happiness, friendship and sharing, across the world and she has certainly achieved that because her warm friendship has even reached our Malaysian shores!

Hello Kitty always says, “You can never have too many friends,” and “Friends Forever” is the theme for her 40th anniversary celebration in Sanrio Hello Kitty Town, Nusajaya.

Hello Kitty and I may be friends but I have some trouble with reading her facial expression because she has none.  I just can’t tell anything from her black button eyes and oval nose – and she does not even have a mouth!  So I just have to imagine that she is happy and her missing mouth is laughing or smiling…

I have come to the logical conclusion that this is why she uses her hands and feet – as well as her body – to express herself.  If you don’t agree with me, then observe how she must use her hands and feet to strike various poses when visitors want to take photos with her and her partner, Dear Daniel.

I’m sure you will agree that it is quite a tough job to come up with all sorts of poses – throughout the day – to please a stream of visitors who simply love to take photos with their favourite Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel.

That's me caught in a crazy Kitty moment!
Die-hard Kitty fans will enjoy meeting Hello Kitty in her country of origin because at Universal Studios Osaka, Hello Kitty has an entire building dedicated to her.  There is a section that exhibits her gowns, bow ties and shoes and another section for interactive fun.  The showcase for her bow ties is designed with mirrors that present multiple reflections of the fancy bow ties.  No, I did not play on a little slide designed from a giant Kitty shoe but I couldn’t resist standing behind a headless Kitty gown and pop my head up for a photo!
One of the highlights of Hello Kitty’s 40th anniversary celebration in Nusajaya is an attempt to create a record-breaking number Hello Kitty fans gathered outside of Japan and a record number of selfies taken in Hello Kitty Town on Nov 1.  Four major interactive events planned for the celebration are the Hello Kitty friends’ gathering, Hello Kitty friends’ fiesta, Hello Kitty friend’s catwalk and Hello Kitty friends’ rock music show.

With her motto, “You can never have too many friends,” Hello Kitty has brought much happiness to many and our feline friend reminds us that friendship is borderless, no matter who we are and where we are from!   Happy 40th birthday Hello Kitty!
