Taste of Malaysia at Jen Puteri Harbour

Treat yourselves this Ramadan with A Taste of Malaysia, a breaking-of-fast meal with some of the nation’s favourite food at Harbour Café, Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour.

Chef Hamizi Abd Hamid, proudly presents his family’s recipes for a range of traditional dishes like Rusuk Kambing Bakar Masak Kismis and Soup Gearbox.  Chef Mizi, as he’s fondly called, has designed a range of mouth-watering Ramadan Buffet menus that are served in Harbour Cafe from now to July 4, 2016.

Look out for seven popular Malaysian dishes with flavours that will certainly transport diners back to their own kampungs.  These dishes are presented in charming traditional earthen pots to keep the food warm the old fashioned way.  Among the favourites are Daging Salai Masak Lemak Belimbing Buluh and Udang Masak Kicap Cili Api.

Among the heated pots in the Lauk Kawah Besar range, you should also find Gulai Daging Tetel and traditional Bubur Lambuk.  There is also Serunding Ayam (chicken) and Serunding Daging (beef) to savour with ketupat and lemang.

Warm up after a long day of fasting with the comforting taste of traditional brewed soups like Sup Ayam Berempah as well as popular Wild Mushroom and Spicy Oxtail soups, served with freshly baked bread rolls.

When you are ready to sink your teeth into some juicy meat, check out the carving station for a choice of roasted Prime Ribeye with thyme crust and barbecued Beef Brisket with citrus barbecue sauce.  For a taste of local fusion, indulge in Ayam Golek roasted with Asian spices and percik sauces, and baked fillet of Salmon marinated with Asian spices.

In the Arabian spread, enjoy a taste of Lamb Ouzi with Arabic saffron briyani rice, fried boiled eggs, Arabic lavash bread along with condiments like olives, tomato dukkus sauce and fatush side salad.

If you wish to start with salads, take your pick from Malay favourites in a range of ulam (village greens) and acar (pickles) to savour with a choice of traditional spicy sambal sauces.  Or pick your choice of sliced fruits and vegetables topped with peanut sauce to mix your own rojak!

Renowned for its seafood buffets, the Ramadan spread at Harbour Café also includes an interesting Seafood Bar with a selection of cold crabs, prawns and mussels.  It also features popular items in their International spread while the Japanese station offers a choice of freshly made sushi, tempura moriawase, maki rolls and fresh slices of seafood sashimi.

Besides the raw fish buffet, you can also savour the hot buffet of delectable Malay dishes along with stir-fried Chinese items as well as Indian tandoori, breads and condiments. 

At the Noodle Station just ask for help if you wish to taste a choice of Penang Nyonya Laksa, Mee Rebus, Peranakan Mee Curry, Fishball soup or Wantan Noodles with delicious wantan dumplings and even Johor’s very own, Laksa Johor.

Pastry Chef Zuwairi Shuaib and his team are whipping up an exquisite range of sweet creations to let diners end their meal sweetly.

From assorted Malay kuih to Western cakes and French pastries, there is also a chocolate fountain and even a live cooking station for freshly fried bananas and durian fritters.  Don’t miss Harbour Café’s popular Crème Brulee served in three flavours – Vanilla, Pandan and Coffee!

Savour all these with a choice of brewed hot coffee, tea or chilled Syrup Bandung.

If you are a fan of the King of Fruits, save some space for fresh durian, served on the verandah to keep its pungent fragrance outdoors.  A pair of disposable gloves are also supplied for you to hold the fleshy fruits and save you a trip to wash your hands!

Prices for the Taste of Malaysia buffet are RM126 per adult and RM63 per child aged 5 to 12 years.  For groups of 50 adults, the price starts from RM120 per person.
