Tales of Hang Tuah…Mosquito Hearts…Missing Buffaloes strike a familiar chord among Malaysians and this collection of local stories will be staged in three shows scheduled on Nov 18 & 19 at the Yayasan Warisan Johor auditorium.

One of StageCrafts core objectives is to provide drama and speech instruction to students aged 7 to 17 in Johor Baru and this year-end production is part of their education where students may showcase their confidence and public-speaking skills.

In previous years, StageCraft presented dramas from original and adapted materials as with False Awakening (2014) and The Headliner and Mirror Image (2015).

This year, StageCraft picked stories from familiar Malaysian folklore and major parts of it were scripted and adapted for stage by a former StageCraft student who’s now a Media & Performance student in Sunway University in Kuala Lumpur.

StageCraft encourages their students from as young as age 9 and 10 to improvise as they perform because it gives them a sense of pride and confidence when an improvisation they created was then used in place of the original script!

Students also honed their skills by attending masterclasses conducted by Johor's own award-winning personality in performing arts, Marion D’Cruz from Five Arts Centre.

Many adults and parents who have watched StageCraft productions have been amazed, awed, captivated and thoroughly mesmerized by the students’ talents.

While credit is due to the students, StageCraft takes pride in encouraging their students to excel and this year-end production will let parents and guardians see how much their children may be challenged to perform in a conducive learning environment.
