Some 150 children under the care of the Kulai chapter of IKRAM and Yayasan Sejahtera Kulai were guests at a breaking-of-fast meal hosted by Le Grandeur Palm Resort recently.

The children were accompanied by their parents, guardians and teachers for a relaxing and enjoyable meal, held at the resort’s Perkasa Ballroom.

This annual charity event was part of the resort’s Corporate Social Responsibility Programme in caring for the less fortunate in the neighbouring area and giving back to the community where they work in.

The event opened with the screening of a photomontage of the various aid activities carried out by IKRAM with the communities in need throughout the nation.

In his welcome address, resort general manager, Jef Kong, expressed the resort’s pleasure in hosting the event and sharing festive joy with the needy families during Ramadan and the coming Hari Raya season.

Festive packages and duit raya were presented to all guests
“Hosting the Ramadan buffet is just one of the ways of sharing this wonderful festive season with them,” said Kong.

IKRAM (i-Bantu) Community Service Committee chairman, Associate Professor Hj Ainullotfi Dato’ Seri Abdul Latif, thanked the resort for their partnership in hosting the event with IKRAM.

He also took the opportunity to introduce the work of their Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and explained that i-Bantu is the local arm of IKRAM that offers humanitarian services to communities here in times of need while its international arm, MyCare, reaches out to offer international aid to other countries.

For instance, during the massive floods in Kelantan and Terengganu, teams of i-Bantu volunteers were on site to help the affected communities and also helped to set up homes that were destroyed by the floods.

Meanwhile, i-Bantu provides support on an on-going basis, to underprivileged groups including orphans, single mothers and the physically challenged through various annual programmes like Back-to-School for students and at festive seasons like Ramadan, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Hari Raya Haji.

For the gift presentation, the recipients assembled and collected their festive packages in an orderly manner.

Kong presented them with duit raya and cookies from the resort while IKRAM Johor, represented by Associate Professor Ustaz Dr Ajmain Safar and IKRAM i-Bantu, represented by Associate Professor Hj Ainullotfi, presented them with the NGO’s gifts.

They were assisted by representative from Yayasan Sejahtera Kulai, Norrizam Muhammad, Kulai Member of Parliament, Teo Nie Ching, and Bukit Permai Assemblyman, Tuan Haji Tosrin Jarvanthi and Senai Assemblyman, Alan Tee Boon Tsong.

The event continued with a prayer recitation by a pair of youths, followed by the breaking of fast with the tradition of eating dried dates before going to Maghrib prayers.

The presentation of Nasyid songs
The guests then enjoyed a sumptuous spread of appetizers, soups, local favourites, Ramadan delicacies and Chinese stir-fried dishes, presented in a mouth-watering and colourful buffet

A team of Le Grandeur Palm Resort staff was on hand to graciously serve the food and ensure that their young guests enjoyed a taste of the wide range of food from the buffet.

After their prayers, the guests returned to the ballroom to enjoy a leisurely meal from the buffet and happily helped themselves to more of their favourite items.

Finally, a group of vocally talented male students presented Nasyid songs at the close of the event.

With stomachs satisfied and arms loaded with goodie bags and gifts for the festive season, the young guests and their families left with pleasant memories of the goodwill and their special treat at the resort.
