Amaya's Weekend Flame & Grill Buffet

It was good to be back at the Amaya Food Gallery again, this time to celebrate our nation’s 65th birthday along with special guests who shared the same date of birth.

It was good to be back at Amaya Food Gallery

The National Day celebration was just the right time to kick off the Weekend Flame & Grill Buffet for diners to savour a sumptuous menu that features grilled meat and seafood in a buffet that also comprised appetizers, soups, hot dishes, local and international specialties, live cooking stations and a range of delightful desserts.

Established as a Thai brand under the Onyx Hospitality Group, the Amari Johor Baru has earned an enviable reputation for the tasty cuisine served at the Amaya Food Gallery and I was keen to check out the fare served in their Flame & Grill buffet.

Diners were helping themselves to the buffet spread in the vibrant Food Gallery and I followed my nose to the Flame and Grill live cooking station where chefs were busy grilling marinated meat and seafood while diners patiently waited to savour the freshly grilled items.

The meat options included Roasted Angus Beef, Hickory Smoked Barbecued Chicken Wings, Spiral Sausages, Grilled Beef Patties, Lamb Shoulders as well as seafood like Whole Barramundi, Tiger Prawns with Cajun Spices, Grilled Sting Rays and Seafood baked in Kam Heong sauce.

I was pleased to see that there were also skewers of freshly grilled beef and chicken satay served with complementary condiments like raw cucumber and onions, cubes of ketupat rice cakes to enjoy, dipped in spicy peanut sauce.

To strike a balance with the meats, a range of fresh garden greens with a choice of condiments and dressings were presented at the Amari Symphony Organic Health Bar.

At the Salad Counter, popular salads in the Thai theme included Spicy Pacific Clams with Glass Noodles, Jelly Fish Salad and the Amaya’s signature Som Tom Thai Salad.

Another signature dish to enjoy was Amaya’s Tom Yam Soup with Lime Juice and fresh coriander.

Seafood lovers will enjoy the Seafood-on-Ice section that feature fresh Canadian Oysters, New Zealand Mussels, half-shell Scallops, Cherry Clams and Red Prawns.

Over at the Pasta live cooking station, the chefs were serving the diners’ choice of freshly made pasta tossed in creamy Salted Egg Yolk Sauce for a luscious, fusion taste.

For fans of Asian food, this buffet at Amaya also has sections that serve Japanese, Chinese and Indian cuisine.

By the time I reached the Japanese section, the chefs were about to make another batch of the popular Salmon, Maguro and Tako Sashimi, assorted Aburi Salmon rolls, Unagi, Salmon and Ebi sushi rolls to replenish these popular items served in the buffet.

In addition to Japanese cuisine, the Chinese favourites to enjoy include Singapore Laksa, Penang Prawn Noodles, Hainanese Chicken Rice, deep-fried Shrimp Paste Chicken, and Buttermilk Seafood made with Flower Crabs, Prawns, Mussels and Clams.

And there was more.

At the Indian section, authentic flavours were served in Chicken Tandoori, Vegetable Aloo Ghobi, Dhall Tadka and Madras Curry Chicken to savour with Naan and Kashmiri Biryani Rice.

The buffet continued with Desserts that featured a range of sweet temptations, mainly in the durian theme.

I could not miss the eye-catching tower of Durian Profiteroles at the top of the counter which also served Durian Mousse with Gula Melaka, deep-fried Durian Fritters, Serawa Durian, Durian Dodol and icy treats like Durian Cendol and Durian Ice Kacang.

There was also a range of non-durian desserts like Rainbow Cake, Blueberry Cheesecake, Red Velvet Cake and Mango Mousse Cake among other local kueh like Kuih Lapis, Pulut Panggang and Ondeh-Ondeh.

The sweetness did not end here because there was also a Chocolate Fountain to dip and coat your favourite condiments and even a choice of ice-cream flavours to choose from.

Don't miss out on tasting the
refreshing Mat Kilau mocktail

It was a pleasantly sweet ending to a satisfying meal, washed down with a specially blended mocktail dubbed, Mat Kilau.
