Causeway Cafe presents Citarasa Warisan Johor

This Ramadan, shoppers at Mid Valley Southkey Mall can break their fast conveniently at a buffet spread created in the theme, Citarasa Warisan Johor, served at Causeway Café in St Giles Southkey.

Located on Level Six of the hotel within the mall, the Causeway Café has gained a reputation for its weekend buffets – which was often overbooked – and is ready to please diners by serving over 300 flavours of dishes from Malaysian Heritage in their Ramadan buffet.

Diners who are familiar with this Café will agree with me that while this dining space may not be huge, the culinary team can use the space creatively to serve a wide range of traditional breaking-of-fast dishes from live-cooking stations and a hot buffet.

A range of ready-made local salads or kerabu

In the preview of this Ramadan spread, I was pleased to spot Bubur Lambuk, traditional rice porridge to warm the stomach after a day-long fast and Sup Ayam, a traditional rich chicken soup.

In addition, there were also Sup Kambing Berempah and Cream of Pumpkin Soup to enjoy with a range of bread rolls.

There were refreshing local salads, Ulam-ulaman served with a range of traditional sauces like Sambal Belacan, Tempoyak, Cili Kicap, Budu, Cencaluk, and Air Asam.

Local appetizers comprised ready-made salads like Kerabu Pucuk Paku, Kerabu Daging Salai Bakar, Kerabu Manga Ikan Bilis, Acar Buah, fruit pickles as well as ingredients to make-your-own salads like Gado-Gado topped with spicy peanut sauce.

Popular delicacies served from live-action stalls include Satay, skewers of grilled chicken and beef, served with condiments like nasi empit, lemang, ketupat and burasak, traditional steamed rice and glutinous rice items that also taste good with chicken or beef Serunding, meat floss.

Arabian fare included whole Roasted Lamb where a chef will carve and serve portions upon request. Drizzled with a choice of sauces, the lamb was best savoured with flavoured rice. There was also Shawarma, Baba Ganoush and Humus.

Among the local favourites served from live stations were Ikan Bakar, a choice of grilled fish topped with spicy sauce, Roti Canai, Murtabak Ayam (chicken) served with Dhall gravy, Lamb Masala and Sambal condiments.

Non-spicy choices in the buffet included Vegetarian Fried Noodles and Fried Rice, Roasted Chicken with Chicken Rice along with clear Chicken Soup.

I spotted Asian favourites like steamed Dim Sum to savour with dip sauces and popular Japanese cuisine like Sushi, Sashimi, Maki Rolls served with complimentary condiments like wasabi and refreshing pickles and salads.

There was also Seafood-on-Ice for a pick of fresh Tiger Prawns, mussels and cockles to savour with lemon juice and a choice of sauces.

From the hot buffet, diners can help themselves to steamed white rice that tastes right with gravies like Rendang Daging (beef), Ikan Tenggiri Asam Pedas (fish), Ayam Masak Merah (chicken), Sotong Goreng Berempah (squid), Sayur Goreng Jawa (vegetables) and Chinese dishes like Beef Kung Pao, Egg Foo Yong and Sayur Campur, stir-fried mixed vegetables.

Among the deep-fried snacks were fried bananas, sweet potato, jackfruit, oyster mushrooms and squares of deep-fried durian.

In addition to refreshing drinks, there were fresh, cut fruits, Ais Krim Potong, iced lollipops, Ais Batu Campur, a shaved ice dessert and a range of popular desserts like jellies, puddings, cakes and pastries.
