Students from 16 primary schools in and
around Taman Ungku Tun Aminah and Tasek Utara, as well as from city suburbs like
Tampoi, Desa Cermerlang, Taman Molek and Kangkar Pulai, were guests at the recent
Tasek Maju Charity Carnival and children’s party. From 11am, students escorted by two teachers
from each school joined the party held in the Grand BlueWave Hotel Johor Baru
to play games at several game stalls and collect sculptured balloons from a
clown. Students identified from needy
families enjoyed the goodwill shared by the Tasek Maju Group of Companies in
their annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event.
Since property developer, Tasek
Development, was incorporated in 1972, corporate philanthropy has been the
culture of the Group. The spirit of
“Receiving from the community and giving back to the community,” established by
founder, Ang Tiong Loi, continues to be upheld by the Group in their commitment
as a socially responsible corporation. They
believe that as employees are involved in organising annual charity projects,
they not only achieve human capital development but also create an environment
of civic responsibility in the Group.

In the early years, the Group who also
owns the Grand BlueWave Hotel JB, would host breaking-of-fast meals during the
annual Ramadan month with groups of underprivileged children. In the wake of the devastating Japanese
tsunami and earthquake in 2011, the Group worked with the Kiwanis Club of JB
and the Japan Club of JB to raise funds in aid of the victims. In the following two years, they held
fund-raising activities for the building fund of a hall in SJK (C) Kuo Kuang in
2012 and the construction of a children’s home in 2013.
In 2014, the children’s home, named the
Ang Tiong Loi – Rotary Children’s Home,
after the Group’s founder and trustees, the Rotary Club of Johor Baru, was officially
opened and handed over to NGO, Cross Community Berhad and welfare society, Persatuan
Kabajikan Kasih Segamat to run. Built on
a plot of land in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah measuring 471 sq meters valued at
RM300,000 that was donated by Tasek Maju, the Home is now a shelter for underprivileged
school-going children from destitute families in and around JB. This Home was an inspiration for the Group to
channel their goodwill to primary school students this year.

The children from this Home were among
the 170 students who played games, won prizes and munched on popcorn in the
carnival held in several of the hotel’s banquet halls. When the children were nicely warmed up with
fun and games, they did not hesitate to help themselves to a Hi-Tea buffet
spread that was thoughtfully designed in a kid’s menu, complete with cake and
ice-cream. They also enjoyed the treat
of a magic show by Yeap Magic, a family of magicians who performed an exciting
show of mind-boggling tricks, followed by a dramatic display by an artiste in
the ancient art of Face-Changing.
“We aim to create value for our
customers by developing a place to call home and quality properties that they
can pass onto the next generation,” said Tasek Maju Realty Director, Jimmy T.
M. Ang, as he explained the Group’s rationale in creating wealth and the
preservation of wealth for the community here.
As a socially responsible corporation, the Group plans to establish a
foundation to continue with their contribution to the underprivileged. His mother Group Director, Mdm Tjiang Giok
Moy, presented each student and teacher with a gift that comprised a backpack
filled with a stationery set and shopping vouchers worth RM100 each.
