Celebrating Party No. 5

The first Sanrio Hello Kitty Town indoor theme park outside of Japan celebrates its fifth year anniversary in Puteri Harbour, Johor, this December with a month-long event dubbed Party No. 5.

The guests are arriving and the lobby of Sanrio Hello Kitty Town is getting crowded. They include fans, friends and families and special guests from four charity homes in Johor Baru.

Overhead, I spot a large hammock suspended across the lobby, filled with multi-coloured balloons. I guess it will be ‘raining balloons’ in the lobby at some point of the celebration.

Taking center-stage is a tall, layered cake designed in multi pastel colours, surrounded by a bunch of cupcakes topped with icing in matching pastel colours.

A star-shaped design on the top-most layer shouts ‘Party No. 5’ while two ‘flags’ stuck on top of the cake bear the logos for Sanrio Hello Kitty Town and Thomas Town, the stars of this celebration.

Then the event Master of Ceremony is playing party games with the young guests.

They include children from Persatuan Kebajikan Mesra Megah Ria, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Pushpanesam, Bunga-bunga Syurga Group – a centre for children with Down Syndrome and the Damo Orphanage, who were at the park for the very first time.

While the children were at first quite shy, they soon warmed up and happily responded to the MC’s quiz questions because prizes were being awarded for the right answers!

This is only the first part of the event and they are already squealing in excitement.

Later, when they enter the park, the children will be delighted with all the fun activities at the Wishful Studio where they may design badges, make handkerchiefs and create designs on a paper bag, themed around the 5^th anniversary celebration.

In addition, there are arcade games set up around the park, arranged in a schedule for the children to take part in games like Friendship Land Hunt, Ring Toss and Sailor Bowl where they stand a chance to win more prizes.

MINIS engines exhibition

The celebrations continue at Thomas Town where the children can meet with Thomas and his friends in the Thomas & Friends MINIS engines exhibition.

These are 70 one-meter tall Thomas & Friends engines, replicated from the popular Thomas & Friends television series and includes the core cast of familiar engines like Thomas, Percy James and Gordon.

The children will also enjoy identifying the series of mini engines decorated in exciting new themes including Dino, Heroes, Spooky, Racers, Neon, Robo, Chillin’ and Metallic.

Besides the engine exhibition, there are a schedule of activities such as mini-show giveaways, the Thomas Town life-size board game and Thomas & Friends skilled games.

Throughout December, at 1.30pm on Saturdays and Sundays, there will be Thomas Storytelling Sessions in Thomas Town.

Back at the park lobby, the MC cleared the space for the anniversary celebrations to kick off with a song and dance show by a group of park performers.

Then the Chief Commercial Officer & Chief Executive Officer of Integrated Theme Parks & Attractions of Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels, Philip Whittaker, was invited to give his speech.

The close of his brief but meaningful speech marked the start of the festivities.

Whittaker was joined by Sanrio Hello Kitty Town & Thomas Town Puteri Harbour, General Manager, Haria Irman Djuli Muhammad, to cut the lovely cake.

Then the hammock full of coloured balloons was released and the excitement went up a few notches as balloons rained down on the guests in the lobby!
