Feast your eyes on Infinity Art

The inaugural Infinity Art Exhibition that features some 84 works of art by local artists, opened to the public after a simple ceremony that was officiated by the State Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage Committee Chairman, YB Mohd Khuzzan Abu Bakar.

Curated by Sky Infinity Innovation, the exhibition brought together 16 artists based in Johor, Kuantan, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, to exhibit their creative works in Johor Baru.

In his opening address, YB Mohd Khuzzan praised the artists for their passion and creativity and urged all parties involved in the industry to work together to develop interest and attract more visitors to this exhibition.

He also acknowledged the partnership of Yayasan Warisan Johor or Johor Heritage Foundation in providing a conducive space for this exhibition and thanked Sky Infinity Innovation for providing a platform for the artists to promote their work.

The Infinity Art Exhibition is so themed because it showcases an eclectic collection of artworks that feature the endless expressions of the artists’ creativity.

The collection features artwork in traditional oil painting, watercolour painting, pastel painting, acrylic painting and even digital painting.

The artists know no bounds as they expressed their creativity in various media through abstracts, landscapes, portraits, still life, photorealism, impressionism as well as three-dimensional art.

Among the artists featured in this exhibition are self-taught artists, full-time artists, art teachers as well as students from the Johor Art School.

The series of pastel work by Izzaty Ahmad that features Malaysian foliage was a charming and cool collection of art created in mixed media.

Born and raised in Batu Pahat, Johor, her earliest influence was her father, a schoolteacher whom she first observed doing his art.

Now a full-time artist, Izzaty’s career in the art industry started in 2010 when she worked as an in-house artist with a company that specialized in glass painting.

She started to do commissioned work in 2017 and is still actively involved in the industry as an art educator.

Another Johor-based artist, Suhaida Sukarman showcased a range of ceramic installations that she created from her ceramic art experiences with ceramic art workshops.

In pursuit of her keen interest in ceramic art, Suhaida participated in the Asia International Conference of Art & Design held in Komplex Kraf, Langkawi in 2018 and joined a Ceramic Apprenticeship Programme led by Master Lee Hyang Gu, at UNESCO The Creative City, Crafts & Folk Art in Incheon, Korea in 2019.

In 2018, she founded SuKaolin Art Studio where she continues to share her passion for ceramic art while creating interesting and unconventional pieces of ceramic art.

Throughout the exhibition in Galeri Seni, there were notices that read, Do Not Touch, to remind visitors not to touch the exhibits because these artworks are for admiring and appreciating, and should not be touched.

Next to the ceramic installation by Suhaida entitled, Unpleasant Touch, there was also a notice that read, Do Not Touch.

It was very interesting to observe that in spite of this pointed reminder, visitors could not resist doing just the opposite and were instantly driven to touch and feel this particular piece of art!

Salina Arifin, another Johorean who started her career in the art industry as an art educator, have been exhibiting her work since 2004 and was thrilled to showcase her artwork created with mixed media on boards, in this exhibition.

In her role as Project Manager with Sky Infinity Innovations, the curator for Infinity Art Exhibition 2020, Salina explained that she always had a desire to present a showcase of artwork with her friends and this exhibition was the fulfillment of her dream.

She was keen to include students from the Johor Art School to give young artists a glimpse of the art world and the personal experience and exposure of being exhibited in such a show.

With the help of the Art School teachers, four pieces of artwork – one piece each from four students – were selected for display in this exhibition.

The future for art appears to be promising, as could be seen from the wide range of artwork on display.

Environmentalism 'Historical' by Qhazril Qhazwan

Among the eye-catching pieces were exhibits by Ahmad Muhamad labelled, Old and New I and Old and New II.

These two pieces were enhanced by the interesting drop-shadow under the careful lighting against his three-dimensional designs.

The Mystical of Johore by Suhaidi Razi was a large composition in mixed media that commanded attention probably because of its vintage look and that the ancient spelling for Johor was used in its title.

This piece compelled visitors to pause and appreciate the various familiar historical elements featured in this collage that reflected a proud era in Johor heritage.

Meanwhile, Qhazril Qhazwan, a university lecturer in Art and Industrial Arts presented pieces of his art with a strong message on global environmental issues.

Among his pieces created in mixed media on board, the three-dimensional elements were not only eye-catching but also thought-provoking.

The Infinity Art Exhibition 2020 is on now for a limited time until March 15, at Galeri Seni Johor located within the Yayasan Warisan Johor or Johor Heritage Foundation building complex, at Lot 888, Jalan Sungai Chat, 80100 Johor Baru, Johor.
