Chinese New Year celebrations at Legoland

 

This year as Chinese New Year celebrations at Legoland Malaysia Resort coincides with the ten-year anniversary of LEGO Ninjago, it presents an excellent opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in an exciting and educational experience here.

In August 2015, I had the privilege to witness the launch of the live show, LEGO Ninjago & The Realms of Shadows, that brought to live the fictional world of Ninjago – Masters of Spinjitsu, presented against a creative set that uses video mapping and illustrations with characters like Kai, Nya, Zane, Cole, Jay and Lloyd, featured as puppets in a 20-minute stage show.

 

This was a real treat because I had the rare experience of watching a clever blend of technology with traditional bunraku, a Japanese puppetry theatre style, in an entertaining and innovative performance at the LEGO City Stage.

 

[More than a year later, in October 2016, I had an unforgettable and most enjoyable experience in a unique cross-cultural exchange where Malaysia’s Teochew Puppets were staged along with Japan’s Ningyojoruri Bunrakuza in an elaborate showcase complete with workshop and demonstration of puppetry techniques.

This one-off event was an initiative of Johor Baru: International Festival City in collaboration with the Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur.]

 

Now visitors can treat themselves to a Ninjago Live Show presented at the LEGO City Stage at two showtimes, 12pm and 3pm daily.

 

For this Chinese New Year of the Tiger, visitors will be immersed in an Oriental ambience complete with Chinese cultural dances like the Parasol or Gege Umbrella Dance and the Straw Hat Dance, presented at two showtimes.

 

These dance performances are in addition to the Opening (10am) and Farewell (4.30pm) Shows staged at The Beginning.

In 2017, I also had fun at the launch of Ninjago World and were among the first in this region to experience a thrilling Ninjago Ride.

 

I joined the four Ninjago young ninja heroes – Kai (Fire), Jay (Lightning), Cole (Earth) and Zane (Ice) – to ‘fight’ with my own brand of stunts and gained the approval of Master Wu at the end of my ride.

 

This year, Legoland Malaysia Resort launched the park’s first augmented reality or AR digital experience in the Ninjago Quest.

The combination of AR and real-life experience will let visitors share in the spirit of Ninjago and see what it was really like to ‘Be Ninja!’ and complete the challenges alongside their favourite characters.

 

All you need is your handphone and a little guidance from the helpful Red Ninjas at the Ninjago Quest station, set up at The Beginning. Ninjas, Kai, Cole, Zane, Jay, Lloyd and Nya will digitally share their individual elemental powers and lead the way.

 

Players at this game will not only be entertained but also be educated by the values that LEGO Ninjago represent – Courage, Honesty, Generosity and Wisdom.

 

At LEGO Ninjago World

Here’s a tip: Master Wu and his team of ninjas have been searching for a missing Golden Amulet that holds the secrets of Ninjago for a very long time. Without it, the future of Ninjago will be in jeopardy.

 

Now Master Wu is at Legoland Malaysia Resort as he wants warriors to join his quest. He invites visitors to learn ninja moves and be a ninja on a quest to unlock six Golden Amulet fragments and reunite them to protect the Spinjitzu legacy.

 

This exclusive event will be at Legoland Malaysia Resort for a limited season to celebrate 10 years of LEGO Ninjago.

On completion of the quest, visitors will be rewarded with a mini-AR video of their adventures alongside the Ninjago team. Plus, the chance to receive your very own Golden Amulet.

 

The LEGO Ninjago augmented reality experience is just one of many amazing Ninjago experiences to be enjoyed this Chinese New Year.

 

Visitors are welcome to join the Ninja Workshop and learn the ways of Spinjitzu from Master Wu and his Ninja assistants, in two sessions: 11.30am and 2.30pm.

Staying close to the Chinese New Year theme, visitors will have fun with LEGO bricks in the challenge to build a LEGO Tiger.

 

And as visitors enjoy the activities and rides throughout the park, remember to keep an eye out for the character appearances of a host of familiar characters like Bricky and the Wizard, Master Wu and Ninja Kai, as well as Ollie the Dragon.

 

They will be happy to pose for photographs with you so just strike a pose with any of these characters, especially two in the Chinese theme, the Monkey King and Chengdu Opera actor.

To usher in festive goodwill and good fortune, visitors at the park on February 5 should be at The Beginning to witness a traditional Lion Dance at 10am and a High-Pole Lion Dance at 6pm.

 

Speaking of good fortune, visitors can spin the Wheel of Fortune and stand a chance to win Legoland gifts every day.

 

Over at SEA LIFE Malaysia, visitors can join in the game to Spot the Nian, a Chinese legendary monster, in the aquariums to win a Tiger paper hat.

This festive season, visitors at the Water Park can look forward to enjoying a Dragon Dance daily at 10am and a Parasol Dance at 4pm on Friday and Saturday.

 

And at 3pm on February 5, catch a traditional Chinese Drum show at the Water Park.
