Since SI IP was chartered on 5 Nov 2016, the club had been busy with social and welfare activities in the community.

These included an education center for refugee children, helping single mothers develop more self-confidence through a range of training workshops and providing a shelter for girls and children rescued from prostitution.

The work of SI IP aims to empower women and advocates a stop to violence against women and girls while providing a safe and pleasant place for our children to grown up in.

While SI IP is one of the youngest clubs in Soroptomists International (SI), they are active in community work like greening the schools and parks, clean-up campaigns, advocating the stop of child abuse and creating a healthier environment within a women’s shelter.

Incoming President, Tunku Fatimah, said that under her leadership SI IP will continue the on-going projects initiated by immediate past President, Nooraini, and welcomed ideas and suggestions on other worthwhile community projects that SI IP may embark on.

With “Collaboration” as their theme, Tunku Fatimah is keen to collaborate with other organisations, schools or groups who are ready to do something for the community and to make Johor Baru a better place.

Among them are Pertubuhan Kebajikan Cahaya Surya Bakti, a welfare organization that operates an education center for refugee children, and Chinese schools where vulnerable youths need to be equipped for their personal safety, to be aware of their rights and how to get help.

At the event, Tunku Fatimah presented a gift cheque from SI IP in the sum of RM5,550 to Pertubuhan Kebajikan Cahaya Surya Bakti founder and executive director, Soraya Alkaff-Gilmour, that would go towards the education needs of five female students.

The community effort of SI IP is in line with the objectives of Soroptomists International, a vibrant organization for professional and business women who are committed to creating a world where women and girls can be guided to achieve their individual and collective potential and have an equal voice in building strong and peaceful communities.
