With the opening of Emperor Cinemas in Johor Baru,
watching a show here is also a special experience in new heights of luxury with
superior image and sound quality in its cinema halls.
A section of the lobby at Emperor Cinemas |
I’m at Level One of the R & F Mall for a media
preview and sneak peek into the eagerly anticipated Emperor Cinemas, the first
luxe cinema introduced in Southeast Asia outside of China and Hongkong.
In the lobby, I see how the cinema spans across two
levels in the Mall as I admire the arty ceiling structures suspended above the
staircase that glows with hidden LED lights… all adds up to a spectacular
sight.
Later, I discover that the staircase leads up to Level
Two for refreshments at the Monkey Café which offers a menu that includes
Hongkong style snacks for cinema patrons to enjoy before or after their shows.
Another counter for favourite cinema snacks at Concession |
At the lobby, the lighted signs for food selections
are hung above the Concession counter and a glance confirms that there is
popcorn – a favourite snack for movie goers – as well as a menu of food like
hot dogs and fries.
Nearby, a sign that reads ATM for Automated Ticketing
Machines, is displayed above a wall fitted with five ticketing kiosks. Additionally,
there are two ticketing counters.
Emperor Cinemas also provide the convenience of
e-ticket sales through their online platform as well as their recently launched
Emperor Cinemas mobile application where patrons can manage their bookings and
receive the latest news updates.

In the lobby, I discover a Waiting Area designed for
patrons to chill out while waiting for their friends or for the show to start.
A poster with the list of Ticket Prices provides the
best deals for Two-Dimension (2-D) and Three-Dimension (3-D) shows, both for
adults and kids that vary for different shows screened at various times of the
days.
Ticket Prices are listed on this poster |
On a wall close to the entrance to the cinema halls, I
read from the numbers posted there that Emperor Cinemas has eight cinema halls.
Next to it, a large poster complete with
illustrations, reminds patrons of the familiar Do’s and Don’ts in cinema
etiquette.
After a few minutes, we are ushered into Hall One for
a formal introduction to the facilities and to meet with the Emperor Group’s
Director of Administration and Special Projects, Vicky Wong.
I’m delighted to settle into my choice of seat, relishing
the feel of a soft leather and flexible armrests in a seat, ergonomically designed
with lumbar support for extra comfort on my back.
Emperor Group's Director of Administration and Special Projects, Vicky Wong addressing the audience. |
In the brief intro, we are informed that Emperor Cinemas
has a combined seating capacity for 745 people within it eight cinema halls,
two of which are equipped with Dolby Atmos while the other six halls are
designed with Dolby 7.1 sound systems.
“Cinemas have to constantly raise their game to
provide unmatched immersive experiences in both sight and sound,” said Vicky.
“We found Sony 4K Laser Projection System ticking all
the right boxes for true 4K image quality,” she added.
Hearing how she is extolling such superior quality, I
cannot help feeling rather impatient for my first experience of the Sony 4K
Laser projector system – the first of its kind in Malaysia – which brings advanced
image quality to the screen with outstanding brightness, high contrast and
superior colour performance.
Then the lights are dimmed for the screening of
several movie trailers in our first experience of the impressive image and
sound quality in the Emperor cinema hall.
But all it did was to elevate my impatience for the
screening of the feature film…
Welcome to your own Emperor Cinemas experience! |
While eagerly anticipating my movie experience here, I
also learn that Emperor Cinemas not only offer an ideal venue for private
parties, meetings and business events, it also provides patrons with the opportunity
to decide on the type of content to screen at their events.
Besides screening movies of their choice, live sports
events or even e-sports competitions, patrons may also create their own themed
activities for birthdays, family reunions and social gatherings at a unique
venue with family and friends.
Since 2014, state-of-the-art Emperor Cinemas have been
established in various cities in mainland China including Beijing, Shenzhen,
Shanghai, Foshan, Hefei, Zhuhai and Chongqing.
It's almost time for our showtime! |
With cinemas established across mainland China and
Hongkong, the brand continues to expand in Asia, from Hongkong to Macau and now
in Johor, Malaysia.
After a refreshment break, it’s finally time for the
movie screening.
Needless to say, I’m among the first to find my seat
at the back of the hall – all seats enjoy an unobstructed view – and join the
privileged few for a most thrilling experience of a nail-biting-exciting-rooting-for-the-hero
genre of a movie.
The R & F Mall, developed within R & F Princess
Cove, is located at Tanjung Puteri, Johor Baru, Johor in Malaysia.
