Impiana Senai shares Chinese New Year goodwill

In 2017, I had the privilege to witness the grand opening of Impiana Hotel Senai as the first business-class hotel in this area and was back for various events including a stay review of the facilities and festive food reviews.

Hotel team members who are familiar with My Johor Stories made my stay very welcome and as I was then working on my book sequel, My Johor Stories 2: Interesting Places and Inspirational People, I was pleased to include a story on Senai along with stories from other districts in Johor, published in December 2018.

Since the hotel’s first Chinese New Year in 2018, their festive celebrations have always been shared with the local community, especially with underprivileged organisations established in and around Senai and Johor Baru.

Looking back, I can safely conclude that this hotel has a heart for the local community particularly after these recent years when people faced hardship and economic uncertainties due to the global pandemic.

This year, under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, Impiana Hotel Senai and the property owners, KCC Hotel (Senai) Sdn Bhd, continued its commitment to giving back to the community by inviting five Johor-based welfare homes and hosted them to a memorable and meaningful experience at the hotel.

Some 22 guests from the welfare homes were from Persatuan Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Terencat Akal Johor Bahru, Yu Shan JB Disabled Welfare Centre, Pusat Jagaan Warga Istimewa Kempas, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Cheng En Johor Bahru, and Persatuan Kebajikan Vision Kulai.

In the spirit of Chinese New Year, the mood was upbeat as the event kicked off with the lighting of explosive firecrackers at the hotel entrance.

This was followed by the sound of thunderous drums and clashing cymbals for a pair of lion dancers who skillfully reached up to the top of the main entrance to retrieve a bunch of fresh lettuce and scattered its leaves to symbolically shower everyone with good fortune.

The pair of lion dancers continued their skillful dance into the hotel lobby to give traditional greetings to hotel General Manager, Mazli Bin Abd Malik, before the lions danced their way around The Tiffin, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant and then proceeded upstairs – by elevators – to dance up good fortune wherever they went.

Meanwhile the hotel’s culinary team had prepared a special buffet luncheon in The Tiffin for everyone to enjoy the festive mood over good food.

The hotel acknowledged that these homes play a crucial role in nurturing the less privileged in our community, and to support their effort in providing enriching and comfortable lives to the needy, the sum of RM2,000 was presented to each of these homes.

GM Mazli then presented individual cheques that were received by representatives of these welfare homes.

The hotel’s gesture in sharing Chinese New Year goodwill reminded us that the essence of Chinese New Year lies not only in extravagant celebrations but also in reflecting on the blessings received and the importance of generosity to the needy.

“Let us continue with the spirit of giving and compassion, not just during Chinese New Year but throughout the year,” said GM Mazli.

“Let us strive together, to build a brighter, more inclusive future for all,” he added.

After enjoying a leisurely lunch at The Tiffin, the guests were invited out to the hotel lobby to capture a group photo memento of the event.

In addition to monetary gifts, the hotel also organised a series of engaging activities, including a colouring session for the children, aimed at encouraging creativity and for the youngsters to have some fun.

Finally, each child was given a box of coloured pencils – which they could take home – to creatively colour a picture outline of a traditional lion dancer.
