Four festive feasts, two different venues


At Thistle Johor Baru, the year-end festive feasts are served at two different venues – Oasis Restaurant and Glass Restaurant – for you to gather with family and friends.

I join media friends at Oasis Restaurant, located by the beautifully landscaped swimming pool and garden for a preview of the highlights from the Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve Barbecue Buffet Dinners.

Chef Hapis and his culinary team aim to take advantage of the alfresco ambiance at Oasis to delight diners with a barbecue buffet dinner that features freshly grilled meats, condiments and a variety of sauces.

The Christmas cheer starts with traditional Roasted Whole Turkey and Roasted Leg-of-Lamb with Yorkshire Pudding served with a choice of Cranberry sauce, Tobasco Pineapple Salsa, Tomato Salsa, Green Apple Barbecue sauce, Mint yoghurt and Honey Mustard Mayo.

At the Grill, diners can look forward to Chicken and Beef satay, sausages, chicken wings, grilled prawn masala, butter grilled corn and vegetables on skewers to savour with a choice of Barbecue sauce, Black-pepper sauce, Percik Sauce and of course, Satay sauce.

Don’t miss the Turkey and Shitake Ravioli Pasta which will be specially presented from a live-cooking station. These delicate pieces of pasta are handmade, so take your time (and your turn!) to enjoy this festive season specialty.

The Christmas Eve specials include barbecued Smokey Jamaican Venison and Turkey Quesadilla with Mexican Spices served from the hot plate.

Christmas treats continue with a range of favourite Christmas desserts like Christmas Chocolate Flummery, Gingerbread Cookies, French Chestnut Yule Log, Christmas Chocolate Truffle, Austrian Farmer Berries Yule Log and Christmas Dundee Cake.

The New Year’s Eve Barbecue Buffet Dinner will feature Laksa Johor with all the condiments in the Chef’s Noodles Special.

Other local specialties in the buffet to usher in the new year is the Trio Kawah of Mamu Fish Head Curry, Gear Box Soup Kambing (mutton) and Kambing Tempayan, or mutton stewed with mint, to savour with Bukhari Rice and Fried Spicy Kampung Chicken.

There is also Seafood-On-Ice with a range of chilled seafood like half-shell mussels, big prawns, clams, NZ oysters and slipper lobsters to enjoy with a dash of Tobasco sauce, lemon juice or cocktail sauce.

In addition to a range of main course items in the hot buffet, the spreads also include Soups served with a selection of bread, Salad and Appetizers, local desserts as well as chilled Juice drinks, hot Coffee and Tea.

The Christmas Eve Barbecue Dinner buffet is served at Oasis Restaurant on Dec 24 from 6.30pm to 10.30pm. Price at RM138 nett per adult and RM68 nett per child aged between six and 12 years.

The Christmas Day High Tea buffet is served at Glass Restaurant on Dec 25 from 12pm to 3pm.

Price at RM78 nett per adult and RM38 nett per child aged between six and 12 years.
