Romeo & Juliet, the wedding scene |
Romeo and
Juliet: Everyone knows their names as they remind us of young star-crossed
lovers and their tragic end.
Trapped
by the feud between their families – the Montagues and the Capulets – their
lives seem to tumble into an inevitable and ill-fated tragedy.
The
apparent “good” coming out of that “misadventure” is that they “bury their
parents’ strife.”
If you
missed the previous performances by the Kuala Lumpur Shakespeare Players
(KLSP), then you cannot miss this.
If you
managed to catch the previous performances by the KLSP in Johor Baru, then you
certainly will not miss this.
From
students, parents, young professionals to serious Shakespeare buffs, everyone
will appreciate the solid portrayal of the characters by the talented cast from KLSP.

This
100-minute abridgement of one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays by KLSP will
peel back the layers, stretch your imagination and unveil some issues that the
tale may be a metaphor of.
KLSP will
keep its characteristic format of performing the key scenes in Shakespeare’s
words and piece the parts together into a coherent whole with a narrative glue
in contemporary English.
Don’t be
surprised if you hear a sprinkling of our local mother tongues!
Pay close
attention to the narration for this is where now-exotic words are explained, overlooked
issues underscored and interesting questions are raised.
As in
previous performances, there will be an exciting Question & Answer session
after the performance for members of the audience to interact with the cast and
director, Lim Kien Lee.
Shakespeare Demystified: Romeo and Juliet will
feature Lim Soon Heng, Hana Nadira, Ali Alasri, Ivan Chan, Safia Hanifa and
Phraveen Arikiah.
So get
your tickets early to avoid disappointment. Prices are at RM63 for adults and
RM42 for students.
Online
tickets are available at bit.ly/sdrnjjb or from JSPA located at No. 86, Jalan
Wijaya, Taman Abad, 80250 Johor Baru, Johor.
